The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care in England.
I’ve heard of a CQC rating but I’m unsure what it means
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. Its main responsibilities include:
Registering care providers
Monitoring, inspecting, and rating services
Taking action to protect people who use services
Speaking with an independent voice and publishing views on major quality issues in health and social care
The CQC aims to:
Protect the rights of vulnerable people, including those restricted under the Mental Health Act
Listen to and act on service users’ experiences
Involve the public and people who receive care
Work with other organizations and public groups
To inspect care providers, the CQC conducts site visits and looks at people’s records to evaluate how their needs are managed. Inspections involve gathering feedback from service users, talking to care staff, and checking that the right systems and processes are in place. Based on their findings, the CQC assigns ratings to providers, which can range from “Outstanding” to “Inadequate.” Additionally, the CQC regularly monitors information from the public, care staff, care services and other organizations.
What are the different ratings?
Outstanding: The service is performing exceptionally well and staff are delivering an exceptional and innovative service with a culture that considers imaginative ways to manage risk and increase people’s opportunities.
Good: The service is performing well and meeting expectations by delivering an effective and consistent level of care.
Requires improvement: The service is not performing as well as it should and has been told how it must improve.
Inadequate: The service is performing badly and action has been taken against the person or organization that runs it. The provider is in breach of one or more regulations and is not meeting some of the fundamental standards.

Moving into full time care is a major life change and one of the most common concerns for older adults is whether the place will feel like home. While care homes often provide fully furnished rooms, many offer the option for residents to bring their own furniture, helping to create a more familiar and comfortable environment.
For many elderly people, pets are far more than companions, they are family, a source of comfort, and a part of daily life. As people consider the transition into a care home, one of the first and most emotionally charged questions often is, ‘can I bring my pet with me?’
When it comes to planning care for yourself or a loved one, having the right information can make a big difference. At Wiserr, we believe in making the process easier and less stressful by giving you the tools you need to find the right care home or service quickly and confidently.
Surrey has a number of outstanding care homes, each offering exceptional services and facilities designed to cater to the needs of older adults. From peaceful, rural settings to more modern residences, these homes provide a perfect balance of comfort, care, and community.
