WebsiteEmail Buckland CareAccommodation – At The Firs, we offer 38 private and spacious bedrooms, each equipped with en suite facilities to ensure comfort and convenience for our residents. Our home recently underwent an extension to incorporate the latest amenities specifically designed for individuals living with dementia. Residents can enjoy a variety of relaxation or activity areas, including three conservatories (one of which serves as our dining room) and additional lounges, providing a range of options to suit their preferences.
Activities – Our dedicated activities team, comprised of Lucy and Anna, have been with us for many years and have developed a deep understanding of our residents’ needs and interests. They are committed to delivering a diverse and engaging activities schedule, including arts and crafts, animal therapy, skittles, and singalongs. For residents who are less mobile, we offer one-to-one sessions to ensure everyone can participate. Throughout the year, we host numerous events such as barbecues, seasonal celebrations, and themed days. We also organize regular outings, like our cherished trips to the Pavilion for Christmas memories, which are always a highlight for our residents.
Cuisine – We place a high emphasis on nutrition and well-being at The Firs, ensuring our residents receive satisfying and healthy meals prepared fresh each day. Our excellent and long-standing Chef takes great care in catering to individual dietary needs and preferences, providing a variety of delicious and nutritious options to support the overall health and happiness of our residents.

Nicola Shayler – Registered Manager
Nikki began her career in the care industry at the young age of 16 and has since worked at every level throughout Devon and Somerset, eventually becoming a home manager. Throughout her journey, she has completed various qualifications. Nikki’s philosophy is to adopt a person-centred approach, placing residents at the heart of the care provided. She finds her job extremely rewarding and is committed to ensuring the best possible care for her residents. Nikki lives locally, is married to a Police Sergeant, and has three children, two of whom have now left home.
Clare Jackson – Deputy Manager
Clare is a dedicated professional with 14 years of experience in the care sector. She started as a supper assistant and has progressed through various roles, including care assistant, team leader, and head of care, ultimately becoming a deputy manager. Clare holds an NVQ Level 3 and is committed to lifelong learning. Outside of work, Clare is a loving mother of two who enjoys family outings, shopping, and socialising. Her career exemplifies her passion for making a difference in the lives of those she serves.
Sarah White – Administrator
Sarah joined The Firs team at the start of 2024. Born and raised in Budleigh Salterton, she is delighted to be back in her hometown. Sarah previously spent 23 years working as a School Administrator before joining Motiv-8, a small company helping people return to employment. It was there that she discovered her passion for helping others, particularly those in need. When the opportunity to join The Firs arose, Sarah embraced the new challenge. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family and is an avid golfer, playing for the local ladies’ team at her golf club.
